Meet The Committee

How It started

The club was established in January 1974 during a meeting at the Red Lion public house, attended by Gerald Salter, Nick Gibson, Barry Judd, David Thomas, and Bob Greenslade. The inaugural meeting followed in February 1974 at Gerald Salter’s home, with subsequent lunchtime meetings held at the Rose & Crown.

In 1977, Bob Greenslade proposed a town trade fair, which became known as Beepex. The initial Beepex was exclusive to members and was inaugurated by Major General Gill, CB.OBE.MC, Colonel of the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards. In the following years, Beepex opened to all local businesses and featured celebrities such as Johnny Briggs, Don Estelle, Ruth Madoc, and Emlyn Hughes. Organized by John Smith (Mr. Beepex) and a dedicated sub-committee, Beepex ran for 20 years, and at its peak, it included a motor show.
